I can see a bunch of log files on the said page - none for radeonhd. Please set up the use of radeonhd and provide a log file. It'd be good to have a verbose log file which you can get with: X -logverbose 7 from the console. (You will have to kill X with ctrl-alt-backspace). Created attachment 21999 [details]
xorg.conf on jaunty driver radeonhd

Xorg.0.log on jaunty driver radeonhd
When starting up ubuntu jaunty alpha 2 with this driver i only get a green horizontal line on the screen.

Xorg.0.log on jaunty driver radeonhd from console using option logverbose 7
When starting X from console using driver radeonhd, i get the error message "no screens found" when starting up ubuntu "normally" i get a green horizontal line over the ubuntu logo from startup.
By the way: i cannot kill X using ctrl-alt-backspace, when using radeonhd. X fails to respond to this command. i can only reboot pc using recovery mode, to get console access. Xorg.0.log using radeonhd driver on a clean Intrepid install
I've added the correct Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf. supposed in the launchpad thread. See the launchpad thread for more info. I did a fresh install on a formatted partition, i only installed intrepid and after that added driver radeonhd by using apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd. Hope this helps to determine the cause of the problems.

xorg.conf minimal version which doesn't start x. see Xorg.0.log
see comment at Xorg.0.log
Please look at the following link: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd/+bug/311748 Here is stated what i've done sofar to get my display working. sysrq+alt+k (if your keyboard/kernel supports it) should also work in most cases to restart X (even if it's locked up hard). Does this issue occur with the preferred ati driver (xf86-vide-ati)? If so, please move this to the Driver/Radeon component. Development of radeonhd has pretty much halted and development focus is on the ati driver. Please see http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonhd If the issue does not exist in the ati driver (or if there is no response to this message), this bug will be closed as WONTFIX unless someone contributes a patch. Closing due to lack of response. Please reopen and move to the Driver/Radeon component if this issue persists with xf86-video-ati |
