Forwarding this bug from Ubuntu reporter Brian Murray: http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/726807 [Problem] Drop down boxes for menus and context menus show a very brief artifacted box (looks like uninitialized graphics memory), before drawing the correct menu. Typically it appears when you go to a window that hasn't been accessed in a while and then right click or open the menu. Subsequent menu activity in that window doesn't show the problem, but if you leave the window for a few minutes and then come back, it'll recur. Unfortunately the display is so brief it's not possible to get a snapshot. Hopefully it's clear enough from the description. It occurs with compositing either on or off, and has been occurring for the past month (I think coinciding with when we switched to r600g as the default in ubuntu). [Original Description] When clicking a menu like View in Audacity or clicking a drop down list in Firefox I briefly see artifacts before the list or menu is rendered. Here is a screenshot I made with my phone: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/66657228/corruption.png
Forgot to add that I notice this problem with my Radeon mobility X700 (R300g)
Same here, ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 (r600g), KDE 4.6.1, qt 4.7.2, xorg-server/mesa/libdrm/xf86-video-ati git master. It is there for a long time now, cannot say when it started. It is not very distracting, so I didn't report it. It is easily reproducible - just open any popup-menu and when it appears, the area looks corrupted (uninitialized?) until it is first drawn (happens very soon).
Sounds like bug 34427.
(In reply to comment #9) > Sounds like bug 34427. Indeed, proposed patch from bug 34427 solved this here.
